Counseling
The Role of a School Counselor
Our role is to support student academic performance by providing social/emotional, academic, and career related interventions. This may include in-class presentations, brief individual counseling, peer mediation, small group counseling, and other targeted interventions. We also can serve as a liaison/advocate for parents and students when working with education staff.
Our school counseling program is designed around La Joya Middle School's unique needs. Middle school is an exciting time for students to grow academically, emotionally, physically, and socially. Our hope is to provide resources that are useful and engaging to both students and parents alike!
When Should I Consider Contacting The Counselor?
You are welcome to contact us for any concern, however there may be concerns that are more directly related to our role as defined above. For example:
- If your student is experiencing any social/emotional distress during remote learning please contact us
- If your student is having an academic concern that isn't resolved after working directly with the classroom teacher contact us.
- If there is a significant change in your student’s behavior that indicates the need for extra support please contact us.
- If you're unsure, please contact us below or complete our request form.
